This is my final piece for my sculpture class at Gnomon. I am so happy with the way it turned out. ^_^ It was a valuable learning experience and highly enjoyable to make.

I made a ballerina in honour of my mother's memory. She loved to dance, and danced ballet as a young woman.

I owe her so much.

Daily Deviation

Given 2008-12-27
I love the grace and splendor of Ballerina 2 by *Lepidact the accuracy of the pose, the length and proportions of the body as well as the details of the face and the expression are exceptional. The details especially in the folds of the shoes and the fluidity of the hands and fingers are flawless and work in perfect harmony along with the pose of the body and expression. Damn ! This is brilliant ! The modelling, ...the pose.....  Great!! :puppy-eyes: by crula
I also saw the other pics of her, but this one is really amazing. The perspective and the light (even the reflection above her hand)....everything is perfect...
--THIS-- is for sure a deserved Daily Deviation :wink by Gomotes !!

this is absolutely PHENOMENAL!! XD Im just curious how did you get her to balance like that with so much weight going on the block? and what type of clay did you use if you dont mind me asking. Im trying to get into more figurative sculptures and its hard to balance them just from the torso up!

I have a secret: The image you're looking at was photoshopped. I removed the supporting bar so that it would be more appealing visually. The other images still have it in there if you have a look. The clay is Chavant sulphur free plastecine.

so basically it has a bar behind it to support it?

The armature is held firmly to the base with a set of metal bars. There is no way she would stay upright without it ;)

I know my comment is redundant, but I just can't keep from saying WOW. That's an /amazing/ sculpture. The detail is incredible; I thought this was a photograph at first. And she's so alive! I feel like she could spring to life and finish the dance at any moment. This is truly a gorgeous piece, and a wonderful tribute to your mother. =]

Great Job on this Aernout.
The implied movement is convincing.
The figure is interesting from every angle.
And the anatomy is correct for each flexing muscle.
Good attention to detail,as well as the overall composition.
Just plain lovely...

Hi,

I just want you to know that your work is amazing and that your mother would be very proud of you. This was such a tribute from a son to his mom that is truly touching. Being a mom myself, I have to say that when you were doing this beautiful piece, she definitely was in your heart. I thought you should know that.
